Tasks & duties

Interior plasterers may do some or all of the following:

  • look at and interpret plans and specifications made by architects and draughtspeople
  • advise clients on suitable products to use
  • prepare quotes and invoices for customers
  • erect mobile scaffolding (only if it is under five metres high)
  • use stilts or walking frames to reach heights
  • measure rooms and estimate quantity of plasterboard required
  • cut plasterboard to wall space
  • install plasterboard and plaster fixtures
  • install scotias (wall and ceiling junctions) and cornices (decorative mouldings)
  • mix or use pre-made plasters
  • manufacture and install fibrous sheets
  • apply plaster to prepared surfaces
  • sand plastered areas
  • clean up after the job
  • run their own businesses.

Specialisations

Interior plasterers may specialise in:
  • plasterboard fixing or stopping (filling gaps in plasterboard with plaster)
  • using fibrous plaster to finish surfaces and make decorative mouldings and cornices.
