Tasks & duties
Interior plasterers may do some or all of the following:
- look at and interpret plans and specifications made by architects and draughtspeople
- advise clients on suitable products to use
- prepare quotes and invoices for customers
- erect mobile scaffolding (only if it is under five metres high)
- use stilts or walking frames to reach heights
- measure rooms and estimate quantity of plasterboard required
- cut plasterboard to wall space
- install plasterboard and plaster fixtures
- install scotias (wall and ceiling junctions) and cornices (decorative mouldings)
- mix or use pre-made plasters
- manufacture and install fibrous sheets
- apply plaster to prepared surfaces
- sand plastered areas
- clean up after the job
- run their own businesses.

Specialisations
Interior plasterers may specialise in:
- plasterboard fixing or stopping (filling gaps in plasterboard with plaster)
- using fibrous plaster to finish surfaces and make decorative mouldings and cornices.
