Tasks & duties
Exterior plasterers may do some or all of the following:
- look at and interpret plans and specifications made by architects and draughtspeople
- advise clients on suitable products to use
- prepare quotes and invoices for customers
- attach flashing (a metal strip) around windows for waterproofing
- decide whether to use cement-based, sand-based or modified plaster on a surface
- erect mobile scaffolding (only if it is under five metres high)
- clean and prepare surfaces for plastering
- mix plaster according to manufacturer's specifications
- apply plaster to surfaces
- ensure surfaces are watertight
- create decorative textures in finishing coats
- fix plaster fittings
- clean up after the job
- run their own businesses.
