Bus Driver - Tasks and specialisations

Tasks & duties

Bus drivers may do some or all of the following:
  • drive buses along a set route
  • collect fares from passengers and give them tickets and change
  • keep a record of tickets issued
  • give passengers information on routes, fares and timetables
  • keep a logbook
  • inspect the bus for minor faults
  • clean the bus at the end of a run.

Specialisations

Bus drivers may specialise in urban, school or long-distance bus driving, which all run to a set route and timetable.

Charter bus drivers take passengers on one-off trips, such as to corporate functions, or to events such as sports games or concerts.
