Tasks & duties

Roofers may do some or all of the following:
  • attach roofing materials to buildings
  • cut roofing iron to size
  • remove damaged iron, tiles or other materials from roofs
  • measure roofs
  • install spouting and downpipes
  • select and estimate the amount of materials to be used
  • do minor repairs to structure of roofs
  • prepare quotes and invoices if self-employed.

Specialisations

Roofers often specialise in residential or commercial (non-residential) roofing, although similar skills are required for both.
Roofers may also specialise in working with a particular kind of roofing material, such as tiles, shingle or roofing iron.
