Tasks & duties

Training and development managers:
  • identify and plan for the present and future training needs of their organisations
  • negotiate and plan training strategies with other managers and external providers
  • oversee the budget for training and work resources such as videos, journals and books
  • work with design and marketing staff to create training videos, posters and other resources
  • develop training solutions
  • oversee the cost-effectiveness of training
  • recommend and plan training sessions to develop staff skills
  • hire and manage training consultants, and negotiate fees and contracts
  • assess the effectiveness of training design and delivery methods
  • prepare and review training policies
  • monitor industry trends such as technology
  • may be part of government or industry committees.
