Tasks & duties

Recruitment consultants may do some or all of the following:

  • find and build relationships with clients by phoning and visiting them
  • work with clients to identify job vacancies
  • advertise job vacancies in newspapers and on the Internet
  • interview and profile candidates
  • screen and test candidates
  • phone candidates' referees (such as past employers)
  • reformat a candidate's curriculum vitae (CV)
  • brief candidates about available jobs
  • shortlist candidates for job vacancies and present them to clients
  • arrange job interviews and prepare candidates for these interviews
  • negotiate salaries and contracts for candidates
  • write reports and update databases
  • keep in touch with candidates
  • advise on market trends and salaries.

Specialisations

Recruitment consultants may specialise in recruiting people for a particular industry area, such as IT, design or business-related industries.
