Danny Mulheron - Director
"Directing is all about connecting with people. In some ways I don't think of directing as being any different from acting or writing: you're working with a group of people to tell a story," says Danny Mulheron.
"What you need first and foremost is the group of people. I went to drama school and the best thing that came out of that, was getting a group of friends that I could work with. I'm still working with the same friends.
"I love the purpose of directing - that you're with a group of people on a creative endeavour. I love the feeling of comradeship when I've got a good script and everyone's really involved. As the director, I'm the person who starts the project and gives it over to other people to finish. I basically say to the actors and the director of photography 'This is how I think it should happen; you take it away and work on it'. I enjoy seeing what they come up with - that exchange of ideas is what I love the most."
Danny has worked on all sorts of projects, from television series and movies, to corporate videos and theatre plays. "My thing is really working with actors. I'm not really a doco maker."
But directing is not just about connecting with co-workers. For Danny it is also about making an impression on the audience. "Doing something I really love is great and making people laugh is probably the best."
As far as Danny is concerned, the drive to work on any project should come from one thing. "You've got to have a story to tell - that's the important thing. If you haven't got a story to tell, why do you want to direct? Just so you can be famous? Just so you can be in Hollywood? Because it's not going to happen like that. I know if you've got a good story, everything comes back to that."
