Personal Qualities

Avionics engineering tradespeople need to be accurate, patient, efficient and able to follow instructions. They should be practical and logical in their work, with an eye for detail. They also need to work well in a team and take responsibility for their own work.

Sean Moynihan

"The job would suit someone who understands how a computer works and how things interlink. Initiative helps because a lot of avionics installations require initiative to install them correctly."

Physical Requirements

Avionics engineering tradespeople must be certified as medically fit and healthy, and pass a psychological evaluation test that certifies them as mentally fit and able. Avionics engineering tradespeople also need to have good hand-eye co-ordination, normal colour vision and must be comfortable working in confined spaces.

Paul Scales

"Small confined spaces are an issue and you may be required to climb into fuel tanks to perform an inspection. So if you were claustrophobic it would make some tasks hard to perform."
