Skills & knowledge

Exterior plasterers need to have:
  • knowledge of plastering materials, compounds and equipment
  • knowledge of plastering methods
  • knowledge of different flashing and cladding systems
  • skill in interpreting plans
  • knowledge of building rules and regulations that relate to exterior plastering
  • organisational ability, as plastering is a step-by-step process
  • knowledge of competitors' prices and services.

Personal Qualities

Exterior plasterers need to be:
  • careful, methodical and accurate, with an eye for detail
  • able to follow instructions
  • creative
  • able to work well under pressure.
Exterior plasterers need to enjoy working outdoors.

 

Physical Requirements

Exterior plasterers need to be fit and healthy as the work they do is physically demanding. They also need to have a strong back and arms, good eyesight (with or without corrective lenses) and steady hands. They should also be comfortable working at heights.
