Models need to have:

• knowledge of body posture, movement and facial expressions
• knowledge of body and face care
• knowledge of make-up, hairstyles and fashion
• performance skills
• the ability to memorise routines.

Models may also need to know about sales techniques if they are doing product promotion work.

Models need to be:

• confident
• patient
• punctual
• adaptable
• professional
• able to accept criticism
• able to concentrate for long periods.

Modelling agencies are not looking for a set look, as this varies with each job. They do require models to have good skin, however, and most agencies have a minimum height requirement for some jobs, such as catwalk and some photographic work.

Models need to have clear speech, good co-ordination, a flexible body, tidy appearance, and they must be reasonably fit and healthy. They may be required to participate in specific activities for photographic assignments.
