Personal Qualities

Demonstrators need to be:
  • confident about engaging with the public for long periods, and approaching people
  • outgoing and persuasive
  • friendly and polite
  • understanding and aware of other cultures
  • adaptable.
A good memory is useful, as demonstrators need to recall details about the product they are promoting.

Common sense is also important, as you need to know when it is appropriate to approach people.

Carl Hamblyn

"You have to be spontaneous. There is no set pattern – you need to sell different things in different ways all the time."

Carl Hamblyn - Demonstrator

Physical Requirements

Demonstrators need to have a neat and tidy appearance, and be able to speak clearly. They need to be reasonably fit and healthy, because they are on their feet for long periods and may have to do some lifting.
