Skills & knowledge

Bicycle mechanics need to have:
  • knowledge of different bicycles, accessories and their components
  • a good understanding of how bicycles work
  • good mechanical skills to repair and service bicycles
  • good communication skills for dealing with customers
  • problem-solving skills
  • organisational skills to manage their day, as they may have to combine mechanic duties with shop duties.

Physical Requirements

Bicycle mechanics need to be good at working with their hands and must have good hand-eye co-ordination to carry out servicing and repairing duties. They may need to stand for long periods.
