Working Conditions

Architectural technicians typically spend most of their time working in offices, but may have to visit building sites in all weather conditions.

Equipment

Equipment architectural technicians may use includes:
  • a computer
  • computer-aided design (CAD) software
  • a drawing board
  • drawing and measuring instruments
  • model-making equipment.

 

Hours

Architectural technicians usually work regular hours, but may be required to work overtime to meet deadlines.

 

Contact with people

Architectural technicians work independently or in teams, usually with other technicians and architects. They may work under the direct supervision of an architect or a senior architectural designer.

They also have contact with:
  • clients
  • council employees
  • builders
  • building professionals such as structural, mechanical and electrical engineers, and quantity surveyors.
