Working Conditions

Legal secretaries usually work in offices in law firms and government departments, and may also work for judges in courts. Work conditions may be stressful, as they often need to meet deadlines.

Equipment

Equipment legal secretaries may use includes law library resources and office equipment such as computers, legal document software, scanners and dictaphones.

 

Hours

Legal secretaries generally work standard office hours. They may work  full- or part-time and may sometimes have to work overtime.

 

Contact with people

Legal secretaries work independently and unsupervised, and as part of a team. They have contact with a range of people including:
  • the public
  • barristers and solicitors
  • suppliers
  • travel agents
  • caterers.
