Working Conditions

Tyre servicepeople work in tyre fitting bays, workshops or factories. Some tyre servicepeople work on trucks and tractors, and may visit trucking companies or industry sites. They may also have to travel to attend breakdowns. 

Conditions can be noisy, dirty or hot and tyre servicepeople can spend a lot of time standing.

 

Equipment

Equipment tyre servicepeople may use includes:



  • tyre fitting machines

  • air-operated tools such as tyre changers

  • measuring and testing equipment such as wheel balancers and wheel alignment machines

  • tyre retreading and inspection machinery

  • vehicle hoists

  • hand and power tools

  • protective clothing

  • computers and cash registers.

Hours

Tyre servicepeople usually work regular hours; however, some factories run 24 hours a day and require shift work. Tyre servicepeople may also work weekends during busy periods and attend emergency call outs.

 

Contact with people

Tyre servicepeople work independently and in small teams. They may have contact with customers, suppliers and other automotive professionals.
