Working Conditions
Small business owners' workplaces vary depending on the type of business they run. They may work in offices, workshops, farms or from home. They may also travel to other people's homes and workplaces, or to conferences.
"I try to take on jobs that are local to minimise my time away from home, but I often work with organisations that have branches throughout New Zealand, and sometimes overseas."
Wayne Thompson - Small Business Owner
Equipment
Equipment small business owners use depends on the type of business they run. Most use office equipment, including computers, and some may use specialised equipment relating to their business.

Hours
Small business owners typically work more than 40 hours a week, particularly in certain industries, such as agriculture and hospitality, where working days can start early and finish late. These often include weekends and public holidays.
Other small business owners may be able to choose their own working hours, depending on the industry they work in and how much time they are prepared to put into their business.
"The job is basically around the clock, and I guess one of the hazards would be that it is quite hard to switch off at the end of the day."
