Art historians typically work in offices, museums, or galleries. They may travel around New Zealand and overseas to conduct research and attend conferences, exhibitions and art auctions.

Art historians usually work regular office hours.

Art historians may work as part of a team, or work independently when doing research.

They may have contact with a wide variety of people including:

  • art dealers and collectors
  • other art historians
  • art gallery and museum curators
  • students
