Working Conditions

Communication officers spend most of their time working in offices.

They also travel locally, nationally or internationally to visit people such as suppliers, designers and media staff. 

Communication officers may find their work stressful, as they spend much of their time working to deadlines.

Equipment

Equipment communication managers may use includes:

  • general office equipment
  • computers and personal digital assistants (PDAs)
  • projectors and display equipment for trade shows and exhibitions.

 

Hours

Communication officers are usually employed to work a 40-hour week, but often have to work overtime to meet deadlines.

Contact with people

Communication officers work independently or as part of a project or communication team.  They may also work with:
  • other relevant organisations
  • designers
  • suppliers
  • the public
  • the media including television, radio and newspaper reporters.
