Working Conditions

Foresters work for companies that own forests and forest management companies. They mostly work in offices, but also spend some time in the forest working in all weather conditions.

 

Equipment

Equipment foresters may use includes:
  • computers and other office equipment
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other computer software
  • cellphones
  • four-wheel-drive vehicles
  • safety equipment such as hard hats and boots.

Hours

Foresters usually work a forty-hour week, but often have to start early in the morning. They may sometimes have to work weekends.

 

Contact with people

Foresters may work independently or as part of a team. They may  have contact with:
  • forest managers
  • silviculture forestry workers
  • harvesting forestry workers
  • other foresters
  • local council staff
  • members of the community with an interest in forestry issues.
