Pay

Pay for acupuncturists varies, as many are self-employed. Most charge between $40 and $100 an hour depending on their experience and what region they work in.

According to the 2006 Census, acupuncturists earned an average of $24,900 a year and worked an average of 29 hours per week. This includes full and part-time workers.

Career Progression

Acupuncturists may progress to work in related areas of natural therapy such as massage therapy. They may also teach, establish their own practices, or work as sales representatives or consultants for natural health medicine and equipment companies or distributors. Some acupuncturists also move into research.
