Career Progression

After two or more years of experience, graduate surveyors can apply to become licensed cadastral surveyors, which gives them legal status to sign off cadastral surveying work.

After gaining five or more years of experience, land surveyors may become team leaders or managers, and they may apply for Registered Professional Surveyor status within the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors.

Some land surveyors start their own businesses, or may move into work as planners with local authorities and councils.
