Pay for aircraft engineers varies depending on experience and level of responsibility.
- Non-qualified and apprentice engineers earn between $30,000 and $40,000 a year.
- Those with three to four years' experience earn between $40,000 and $60,000.
- Senior staff with six years' experience or more earn between $60,000 and $80,000.
- Senior staff in supervisory or managerial roles earn between $80,000 and $130,000.
According to the 2006 Census, aircraft engineers earned an average of $45,700 a year and worked an average of 44 hours per week. This includes full and part-time workers.

Career Progression
Aircraft engineers can become licensed aircraft engineers, which allows them to supervise and sign for completed work. After that they may choose to move into a team leader and supervisory role overseeing a number of engineers, allocating work and assessing completed work.
Some engineers may complete further studies and move into aeronautical engineering.
