Pay for divers varies depending on skills, experience, and the type of diving they do.
- Newly qualified divers can expect to earn between $27,000 and $35,000 a year.
- Divers with five or more years' experience can earn between $35,000 and $60,000.
- Highly experienced divers can earn up to $80,000.
Commercial divers (who usually work on short-term projects) are either on a fixed salary or work on contract and are paid a daily rate, which can range from $130 to $1,000 or more.
According to the 2006 Census, divers earned an average of $43,000 a year and worked an average of 57 hours per week. This includes full and part-time workers.
