Pay

Models often work on short-term contracts and wages vary depending on the agency, job and location.

Wages range from hourly and daily rates to a flat fee.
  • For photographic work, models can earn between $30 and $150 an hour.
  • For catwalk or parade work, models can earn between $75 and $350 a show.
  • For New Zealand television adverts, models can earn between $100 and $1,000 a day.
Models may also be paid a loading allowance for the additional use of their photographs on posters, websites or billboards.

Models who get their work through an agency pay commission to that agency for handling their bookings.

According to the 2006 Census, models earned an average of $21,600 a year and worked an average of 15 hours per week. This includes full and part-time workers.
