Pay for roofers varies depending on the work involved, their level of experience, and their employer.
  • Apprentice roofers may start on the minimum training pay rate or a little more, with wages increasing as they gain experience.
  • Unqualified, inexperienced roofers may start on the minimum wage or a little more.  
  • With three to five years' experience, roofers usually earn $18 to $20 an hour (about $37,500 to $41,600 a year, assuming a 40-hour week). 
  • Roofers in a supervisory role usually earn $25 to $30 an hour ($52,000 to $62,000 a year, assuming a 40-hour week). 
According to the 2006 Census, roofers earned an average of $37,100 a year. This includes full and part-time workers.
