Pay varies for diagnostic radiologists and registrars (those in training), depending on seniority and frequency of on-call or emergency cover.
- Qualified diagnostic radiologists working for a district health board (DHB) can earn from between $128,595 and $195,441 a year. Diagnostic radiologists working for private practices and hospitals can earn more than this.
- Registrars working for a DHB can earn between $93,472 and $153,521.

Career Progression
Diagnostic radiologists start as registrars before becoming certified as a consultant. They can then go on to become a senior consultant with responsibility for their department, or combine their duties with research or teaching.
