Pay for website developers varies widely depending on whether they are self-employed or work for a business. As a guide:
- Most graduates start on $35,000 to $45,000 a year.
- Graduates with strong specialist skills, especially in programming, can expect to start on $50,000 or more.
- Top website graphic designers and Flash artists with more than three years' experience can earn above $60,000.
- Website programmers with more than three years' experience usually earn $60,000 or more.
- Senior developers with more than six years' experience, including at least three years on large-scale projects, could earn more than $80,000.

According to the 2006 Census, website developers earned an average of $59,900 a year and worked an average of 40 hours per week. This includes full and part-time workers.
