Some jobs in this industry, such as forklift operator, require a specific licence

Training for logistics, trade and warehousing jobs varies depending on the area you want to work in, and may include:
  • on-the-job training or working as a trainee
  • completing part-time, correspondence or short-term courses while working
  • completing full-time courses that can range from national certificates to degrees.
Useful areas of study and training include:
  • logistics and supply chain management
  • sales and marketing
  • finance and business management
  • dangerous goods handling, cargo stowage and cargo classification.
If you are planning to work for an import or export company where you may deal with people from other countries, it can also be useful to have foreign language skills.

Some jobs may also require you to hold specific licences such as a heavy truck or fork-lift licence.
