What can I expect out of this qualification?
This qualification recognises the skills and knowledge of a person at entry level in the poultry industry. The holder of the qualification is able to care for poultry under supervision in at least one of the poultry industry sectors.
Holders of the qualification are able to carry out sanitation, cleaning, and residue control procedures in the poultry facility; maintain site biosecurity; recognise health and ill health in poultry; and have knowledge of food contamination hazards and control in poultry operations, poultry welfare, poultry diseases and their prevention, exotic diseases, poultry anatomy and body systems, and the poultry industry.
Strands allow people to specialise in at least one sector of the poultry industry, which includes egg production, poultry hatchery, and poultry meat production.
On completion of this qualification people can choose to progress to the National Certificate in Poultry Husbandry (Level 3) with strands in Egg Production, Poultry Hatchery, and Poultry Meat Production [Ref: 1177].
