Entry requirements

NCEA Level 3 (minimum of 14 credits in each of three subjects at Level 3 including a minimum of 9 credits in mathematics at Level 1 or higher and a minimum of 8 literacy credits at Level 2 or higher); or - NCEA equivalent (minimum of 14 credits in each of four subjects at Level 2 including a minimum of 9 credits in mathematics at Level 1 or higher and a minimum of 8 literacy credits at Level 2 or higher); or - hold an equivalent overseas qualification; and - have attained the age of 17 years; and - have an English level equivalent to IELTS 6.0; or - gain approval under Admission Regulation 3: Special Admission.

What can I learn during this qualification?

The qualification comprises 6 compulsory Level 5 courses from the Diploma in Hospitality Operations (Level 5), plus 6 compulsory Level 6 courses in: Reception and Front Office Management, Food and Beverage Management, Accommodation Management, Tourism and Hospitality Regulations, Tourism and Hospitality Marketing, Tourism and Hospitality Management, plus 2 elective courses at Level 5 or above.

What can I expect out of this qualification?

Diploma in Hospitality Operations Management (Level 6) graduates will be able to: - demonstrate expertise in operational skills related to reception/front office management and accommodation/housekeeping management; - demonstrate advanced skills in food and beverage operational management; - understand and apply principles and theories of management and marketing in the hospitality industry context; - be conversant and implement compliance with regulatory requirements in the hospitality industry context. Students completing the qualification will be able to continue on to study for the Bachelor of Hospitality Management. Graduates are able to work in a range of positions in hospitality operations management including customer service, food and beverage management, reception and front office management, accommodation management, hospitality marketing and events.
