What can I expect out of this qualification?
This qualification is for people who specialise in milking cows on dairy farms, and who are responsible for maintaining the quality of milk when milking cows.
Holders of this qualification will have the skills to milk cows and have the associated knowledge related to milk quality, milk testing, milk cooling, dairy company tanker dockets, and milking machine components and cleaning. They will also have knowledge of the impact of dairy cattle health on milk quality, milk withholding periods, and mastitis in diary cows.
This qualification shares standards with, and can lead to, the National Certificate in On-farm Milk Quality (Farm Dairy Supervisor) [Ref: 1351]. People may progress to, or be working concurrently towards, the Dairy Farming strand of the National Certificate in Agriculture (Level 3) [Ref: 0985].
