Is fees-free tertiary education calling you to study?

Young man studying

Your plans to gain a qualification and your dream career could take flight in 2018, with the introduction of fees-free tertiary education.

By 2024, you may also be able to get up to three years’ fees-free tertiary education – enough time to get a trade qualification or Bachelor’s degree.

With a qualification under your belt you’re more likely to find work or to advance in your job – and maybe you’ll be able to reach other goals in life, like travelling, hobbies or saving for a home.

Life as a student could get easier too, as students who are eligible for student allowances or loans for living costs will receive a top-up of $50 a week extra from 1 January 2018.

With education looking more affordable, now may be the time for you to put your career plans into action.

Is study for me?

Keen on fees-free education but not sure if study is for you? Don’t worry – there are many ways of earning a qualification, such as studying while working on the job, going to a wānanga or attending a trade academy. You can find a qualification that will lead to the career you want, but also fit the way you like to learn.

Start by taking our CareerQuest quiz to find out what jobs suit your interests or use Skill Matcher to get job ideas based on skills, then check what qualification you need to get into that career.
