New improved home page

The refresh of our home page contains a range of improvements that have been sourced from user feedback and analytics. We have:

  • split the main banner to include a main section and two smaller ones, allowing us to display three key messages at once
  • added a search bar under the banner
  • moved 'Plan your career' and 'Job hunting' from the global navigation bar to a career navigation bar under the search
  • improved the user experience for mobile and tablet devices
  • increased visibility of our interactive tools
  • added links to our most popular pages and resources.

Key Information for Students

We have improved the courses section of our website. Each qualification page now shows the course details and Key Information for Students (KIS) information together, rather than separating this information into two tabs.

Further improvements to our career-planning tools and My Account

You can now add favourite jobs to your account, and easily share and download your results from our tools. We’ve been listening to your feedback and have made a number of further improvements.

CV Builder

  • You can now download and share your CV as a Word document as well as a PDF, giving you more flexibility with formatting and content.
  • You can now choose to skip sections within CV Builder if they are not needed on your CV.

CareerQuest

  • You can now view and edit your answers at the end of the quiz to adjust them and see how that changes your job results.
  • We've improved the data in CareerQuest to give you more accurate job ideas matched to your interests.
  • You can now filter your job results by industry and qualification level.
  • Your top 25 job ideas will be displayed when you complete the quiz to make it easier to print and share these results. You can also expand this to see your top 100 jobs.

Skills Builder

  • We've reduced the number of questions in Skills Builder, to make the tool quicker and easier to use.

My Account

  • We've made it easier to create an account and get started with our tools, including CareerQuest. When you sign up and activate your account, you can now access all the features and tools immediately without having to complete your profile information. Next time you sign in (after 24 hours), we'll ask you to complete your account.

Improvements to CareerQuest, Subject Matcher and My Career Portfolio

On Monday 26 June we will release some exciting new improvements to two of our most popular tools, CareerQuest and Subject Matcher, and to My Career Portfolio, which will be renamed My Account. We encourage your students to sign up for an account where they can come back to see their favourite jobs and share their results with teachers, parents and mentors.

My Account (My Career Portfolio)

We will be renaming My Career Portfolio as My Account, and introducing the following new features:

  • create a list of favourite jobs from your results in our tools
  • keep track of which tools you have started or completed
  • read our recommended career tips and advice for each career stage.

CareerQuest

CareerQuest improvements:

  • better user experience on mobile, tablet and desktop
  • new images for each quiz question
  • favourite jobs list (including favourite jobs you've also added in Subject Matcher).

CareerQuest changes:

There are two options for using the tool:

  • full version – sign in or create an account to access the new features above, including favourite jobs and sharing your results
  • basic version – use the tool without signing in or creating an account. This basic version does not allow you to add favourites, or download, share or save your results.

We have also removed the 'how did I get these results?' feature. We are looking to reintroduce this soon.

We are creating a revised Teacher Guide, and will post a link to it on this page when it is ready.

Subject Matcher

Subject Matcher improvements:

  • better user experience on mobile, tablet and desktop
  • dropdown menus to choose a subject and qualification level
  • favourite jobs list (including favourite jobs you've also added in CareerQuest).

Subject Matcher changes:

There are two options for using the tool:

  • full version – sign in or create an account to access the new features above, including favourite jobs and sharing your results
  • basic version – use the tool without signing in or creating an account. This basic version does not allow you to add favourites, or download, share or save your results.

Subject Matcher is a simple tool so no Teacher Guide is required.
