About the course

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The National Diploma in Diving (Occupational) (Level 5) [Ref: 1008] recognises the skills and knowledge needed to gain employment in Occupational Diving where the application of analytical, industrial, and underwater skills are required. These skills are used to safely carry out the procedures associated with underwater construction, analysis, recovery and investigations in a team environment, and to report on the results of these activities clearly and concisely.

The emphasis is on working safely within a dangerous underwater environment and ensuring that the safety of other team members is paramount in activity planning.

Graduates of this diploma will possess a broad understanding of diving fundamentals and how they can be used in a construction and/or exploration environment to the level required for employment. The qualification will provide a base from which further industry linked qualifications can be added.

The National Diploma in Diving (Occupational) (Level 5) has been developed by the Dive Industry Training Organisation, representatives from industry, providers of occupational diving and the Royal New Zealand Navy.
