Entry requirements

It is recommended candidates hold the New Zealand Certificate in Meat Processing (Animal Product Examination) (Level 4) [Ref: 2483] or the New Zealand Certificate in Meat Processing (Level 4) with strands in Boning Operations, Grading, Meat Quality, Rendering, Slaughter and Dressing Carcasses and Optimising Meat Yields (Level 4) [Ref: 2496], or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.

What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide experienced employees for the meat processing sector who are able to work as animal product examiners, in a supervisory capacity, in a meat processing operation carrying out internal and external examination and verification roles for the industry.

The learner will benefit by having a qualification that will allow them to work as experienced animal product examiners, in a supervisory capacity in a meat processing operation processing meat for human consumption. This qualification provides a training pathway that allows progression through the industry.

This qualification will ensure the establishment of standards of competent performance in completing ante-mortem examinations of stock or post-mortem examinations of animal products in a meat processing operation processing meat products for human consumption.
