Entry requirements
In order to meet all of the outcomes of the graduate profile, a programme of study or programme of industry training leading to the award of this qualification can only be offered through the holder of an air traffic service organisation certificate issued under CAA Part 172, where the certificate authorises the holder to conduct that training; or the holder of an aviation training organisation certificate issued under CAA Part 141, where the certificate authorises the holder to conduct that training.
The trainee must:
- be at least 20 years of age,
- have a Civil Aviation Authority Class Three Medical Certificate,
- be proficient to at least Level 4 (Operational) of the ICAO Language Proficiency Rating Scale, and
- hold a valid NZCAA Air Traffic Trainee Licence.

What can I expect out of this qualification?
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the air traffic services sector of the aviation industry with individuals who have advanced specialist knowledge and skills to operate as licenced and rated air traffic controllers.
Graduates will be qualified to operate as air traffic controllers within a specialist area, and will be accountable for the continuous decisions they make, under the appropriate Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) rules, and aligned with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulatory requirements for air traffic services.
