Purpose of award
To support students from the Te Awamutu area to progress their undergraduate study at The University of Waikato.
The Selection Panel will usually offer one award on the basis of the applicant’s academic merit and the second award on the basis of the applicant’s financial hardship (this may be varied at the Selection Panel’s discretion in exceptional cases. In addition, importance will be placed on applicant’s Community involvement and other personal circumstances that illustrate their participation in their Community at large. Applicants need to clearly establish their credentials in light of these criteria as Rotary is a community service organisation and in providing these scholarships, it seeks to encourage and reward community service and involvement.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
By accepting an Award, the recipient agrees to participate in any publicity concerning the scholarship arranged by the Rotary Club of Te Awamutu. The recipient may be asked to attend a Rotarian meeting.
How do students apply?
Along with the prescribed application form, each applicant must submit:a maximum two-page personal statement providing evidence of residency or other commitment to Te Awamutu community:proposed course of study, proposed future career plans, recent and current community involvement, two character references, a CV (no more than three A4 pages)a financial statement (if applying under the hardship criteria).
How and when do students learn of the decision?
The offer of a Scholarship must be accepted by the date indicated in the letter of offer.
The Selection Panel will comprise of up to four, two Rotarians and a representative of the University’s Scholarships Committee.
History or background of award
This scholarship has been made available by the Rotary Club of Te Awamutu in recognition of the centennial of Rotary International.
The value of the award will be credited towards tuition fees in the year of tenure.
