What does the scholarship get me?

For the purposes of the administration of this scholarship, compulsory fees
are those only related to the relevant programme of study, plus Student
Services Fee and Building Levy.

Purpose of award

To assist second and third year undergraduate students interested in pavement engineering and enrolled in the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The University of Auckland.

Selection criteria

Selection will be based on academic achievement, a demonstrated interest in transportation engineering (in particular pavement engineering), and potential to contribute to the industry. Where an existing Hiway Stabilizers Scholarship
holder is applying for a second award, Hiway Stabilizers’ report on practical work performance will also be considered

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?

Hiway Stabilizers will pay the recipient’s compulsory fees directly to the University and will apply the balance towards the recipient’s textbooks by direct reimbursement on presentation of receipts or by provision of a cheque or purchase order payable to a bookstore on presentation of a written quote.

How do students apply?

Scholarship applications will usually open around six weeks before the closing date. Please read the regulations carefully to be sure you are eligible before you apply.

How and when do students learn of the decision?

Approximately six weeks after the closing date by letter or email.

Decision makers

The Awards shall be made by The University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of a selection committee comprising a representative of Hiway Stabilizers, the Dean of the School of Engineering (or nominee), and an Academic from the School of Engineering chosen by the Dean in consultation with the Hiway Stabilizers representative.

History or background of award

The Hiway Stabilizers Scholarship was established in 2003. Hiway Stabilizers Limited has operated in New Zealand since 1982 and is one of the country's most significant and capable road stabilisation companies. Hiway Stabilizers are recognised as stabilisation experts in the areas of road construction, road maintenance, pavement rehabilitation and soil modification as well as ground improvement techniques.

Additional information

Recipients of the Hiway Stabilizers Scholarship may have the opportunity of summer work experience and/or future employment within Hiway Stabilizers, dependent upon normal criteria being met.
