Purpose of award

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students proceeding to the BE(Hons) degree.

Selection criteria

The scholarships may be held only by full-time students at the University of Canterbury who, at the time of the award, have completed, or been exempted from the Engineering Intermediate year, and are taking subjects of the professional courses leading to the degree of Bachelor of Engineering(Hons). The holders of the scholarships, and previous holders, may apply for the awards in subsequent years.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?

The scholarships may be held with any other bursary, scholarship, prize, or fellowship, unless the conditions of the other awards preclude it. However the Council may, in determining the final award or awards, take into account the number and nature of other bursaries, scholarships, prizes or tertiary allowance held by the candidate.

How and when do students learn of the decision?

Two scholarships shall normally be awarded each year by the Council of the
University of Canterbury after it has received from the Academic Board a report on the character and academic ability of the applicants. If a ccumulated funds permit, the Council may award an additional scholarship in any year.

History or background of award

The funds for these scholarships are provided from the income of an endowment under the will of the late Mrs Margaret Agnes McCully in memory of her husband, Charles S. McCully, a past student of the School of Engineering.

Additional information

If accumulated funds permit, the Council may award an additional scholarship in any year.
