What does the scholarship get me?
Contribution towards tuition fees only

Length of award
One year, Applicants must submit a new application each year.
Number of awards offered
One, may be more offered in any one year
Purpose of award
Available to registered tribal members who are resident in New Zealand and who are studying at a tertiary institution in New Zealand. Grants and scholarships are available for full-time and part-time study.
Selection criteria
Applicant must be a registered tribal member.
Courses must be NZQA recognised and must start during the 2020 calendar year.
Priority will be given to those students applying in the following areas of study
• Sciences (including environmental)
• Business Management
• Early Childhood Teaching
• Engineering
• Medicine/Surgery/Nursing
• Maatauranga Maaori/Te Reo
Consideration will be give to all other tertiary programme applications.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
Grants in consecutive years will depend on academic record. Applicants must pass a minimum of 75% of courses to be eligible for further grants. If an applicant withdraws from their course prior to receiving funding, they must notify the Waikato Ratapu Lands Trust. If this does not occur, an applicant may not be eligible for further grants.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Approved: You will be notified in writing within a month after the closing date. Monies will be paid into your bank account by automatic payment.
Declined: You will be notified in writing within a month after the closing date with reasons why your application has been declined.

History or background of award
The Waikato Raupatu Lands Trust manages and distributes income for the collective benefit of approximately 49,000+ registered Waikato-Tainui tribal members.Income is distributed in the areas of education, health and well-being, Marae, social and cultural development.
Additional information
The Waikato Raupatu Lands Trust may require successful applicants to participate in tribal activities such as Poukai and Koroneihana, as a condition of the grant. Notification of any requirement will be provided to successful applicants. The Waikato Raupatu Lands Trust reserves the right to use your name and other details for publicity and promotion purposes.
