Purpose of award
To assist the successful applicant in taking up tertiary education in either the Environmental, Horticultural or Agricultural field.
Selection criteria
• Applicants for the Scholarship must be New Zealand citizens or New Zealand permanent residents.
• The Scholarship is open to local applicants (Local is defined as being within the Tasman District Zone as far south as Murchison), who are leaving secondary education and are enrolling for their first year of full-time tertiary education at a recognised tertiary education provider.
• The applicant will be enrolled in studies toward a degree that fall into either of the Environmental, Agricultural or Horticultural fields.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
A Scholarship may be terminated if the Scholarship Selection Panel deems that the programme of study is no longer being undertaken or followed by the recipient. The recipient shall have the right to appeal any such termination. The Scholarship Selection panel reserves the right to require payment of the Scholarship in whole or in part in the event of the recipient(s) withdrawal from the course of study. Any repayment will be decided on a case by case basis having taking into consideration the circumstances surrounding the withdrawal. The recipient of a Scholarship agrees to participate in publicity concerning the Scholarship.

All applicants must complete/forward:
• An application form
• A current CV
• A personal statement of between 600 and 800 words detailing why they wish to take up a career in either the horticultural, agricultural or environmental fields.
• A certified copy of current academic record or NCEA Record of Achievement
• Two academic references - Applicants must obtain two academic references which are to be sent directly to the Scholarship postal address. An academic reference form (PDF) can be downloaded by following the link provided. Applicants are responsible for ensuring their referees send the completed reference forms to the address provided by the closing date for applications.
• Proof of acceptance into a New Zealand Tertiary Educational Organisation.
In Selection the successful applicant for the Energie for Life Scholarship the Selection Panel will give preference to applicants:
• of high academic calibre and who have achieved at a high level in their secondary school examinations
• who show qualities of integrity, competence, leadership, enthusiasm and self-motivation.
• who demonstrate a strong commitment to the field of horticulture, agriculture and/or the environment.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Refer to Funder. The Scholarship funds will be credited directly to the fees account of the successful applicant.
Decision makers
The Scholarship Selection Panel will comprise of members of the Energie Fruit Company Board. The Scholarship Selection Panel may recommend that the scholarship be re-advertised if there are insufficient applications of merit.
History or background of award
In September 2010 the Energie Fruit Charitable Trust was established to further enhance The Energie Fruit brands commitment to 'Environment for Life.'
Additional information
The Scholarship Selection Panel will consider students that already hold other scholarships or similar award that are assisting their tertiary education.
