Purpose of award
Every year Horticulture New Zealand (HortNZ) offers scholarships that are open to New Zealand students and trainees who have a special interest in the fruit or vegetable industry and are undergoing significant industry training or education
Selection criteria
The Selection Team will be looking for:
Commitment;
· Potential contribution to the industry;
· Past achievements;
· Individual approach, qualities and skills; and
· Referees’ comments.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
The decisions of the Selection Team will be final. Please note that these scholarships do not cover the wine industry.
How do students apply?
Completed application forms must be returned to your ITO Training Advisor or Educational Institution Supervisor by 05 March 2020
Completed application forms, references and past academic record must be sent to sue.pickering@hortnz.co.nz by your ITO Regional Manager or Educational Institution (in Word, not PDF format please) by 20 March 2020

Decision makers
Selected applicants are reviewed at the end of the year to verify successful completion of their studies, where this is the case the scholarships are awarded early the following year.
History or background of award
Horticulture New Zealand (HortNZ) has a number of $500 scholarships available to industry trainees active in the Horticulture Industry who are studying towards a certificate or diploma.
Additional information
Selection Criteria:
New Zealand citizen or resident;
Signs of commitment to the fruit and vegetable industry;
Potential and willingness to contribute to the fruit and vegetable industry;
Achievement and responsibilities to date (includes level or performance in study, academic achievement and contribution to workplace during practical experience);
Skills, e.g. technical, management, communication and relationship skills;
Individual approach;
Personal qualities;
Referees comments;
Agreement to contribute to the promotion of the NZ horticulture industry; and
Students and trainees must be registered in their course at 31 March 2020 to be awarded their scholarship
