Purpose of award
The scholarship is to grow relevant skills for the Trust while assisting owners and their descendents to undertake full time tertiary study. The trustees have determined that the relevant fields for 2011 are science or forestry or business or environment.
Selection criteria
Applicants must be a beneficial owner or descendant in the Kawerau A6 block. If you are unsure whether you are eligible please to to http://www.maorilandonline.govt.nz/gis/title/search.htm and search using 'Kawerau' the popup list that is populated makes it quite easy to navigate to Kawerau A1 or Kawerau A6. You can check owner interests go to http://www.maorilandonline.govt.nz/gis/owner/interestSearch.htm for a specific owner search and input the name of the person whose interests the students are checking.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
The scholarship can roll over however payment for subsequent years is contingent on the academic achievement of the previous year.
How do students apply?
Applicants must provide a covering letter outlining their chosen career path, their need for the scholarship and describe ways in which they can assist the Trust. Applications should be received by the scholarship committee by 31 May

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Applicants must be undertaking a recognised full time tertiary degree in the fields of science, forestry, business or environment at a recognised tertiary institution in New Zealand. You must be at least in your 2nd year of study.
