Purpose of award
Ballance Scholarships allow New Zealand's talented young people to take advantage of the training on offer in this country. The awards are made to subsidise study at tertiary level in either the general primary industry field or in engineering.
Selection criteria
The scholarships are open to any direct members of a shareholder’s family or company employee.
Students who have already commenced tertiary study are eligible. The tertiary institution where study will be undertaken is the choice of the scholar.
The scholar must maintain an adequate academic record and not bring the scholarship or Ballance Agri-Nutrients into disrepute.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
The scholarship will be reviewed and renewed during its three-year term.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Successful applicants will be contacted early December and will be asked to supply a high-quality colour photo (print or digital) for use in publicity.

History or background of award
Ballance Agri-Nutrients recognises that the continued success of New Zealand's agricultural industry is dependent upon the quality of people it attracts. The changing face of farming, with its increasing reliance on science and technology, means that quality tertiary education plays an even greater role in the industry than in the past.
Additional information
Three of these scholars will undertake study in the primary industry field with the fourth being reserved for study in the field of engineering.
