Purpose of award
The main purpose of the Scholarship is to support a final year medical student at the University of Auckland with an interest in infectious diseases or clinical microbiology. The Scholarship will provide partial support for a student to undertake independent elective activities at a reputable academic institution in the United States.
Selection criteria
To take up and be paid the Scholarship the candidate must be enrolled and have paid the fees, or have arranged to pay the fees, for full-time enrolment in Part V of a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB). The Scholarship will be available for electives undertaken in an area of infectious diseases or clinical microbiology at a reputable academic institution in the United States.
The basis of selection will be academic merit and the relevance of the proposed elective to infectious diseases or clinical microbiology.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
On completion of the elective, the recipient of this Scholarship is required to provide a brief final report outlining the study undertaken and the benefits obtained. This report is to be submitted to the Scholarships Office within one month of returning to New Zealand, for the purpose of being sent on to the donors.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
The Scholarship will be paid in one instalment at the commencement of Part VI.
Decision makers
The Scholarship will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council upon the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (or nominee), the Chair of the MBChB Electives Committee (or nominee) and one representative of the Medical Programme Directorate.
History or background of award
The Scholarship was established in 2015 and is funded by Henry and Marjorie Isaacs.
Additional information
For the purpose of this Scholarship, academic merit is assessed as a Scholarships GPA or GPE obtained over the applicant’s most recent two years of full-time graded study (or equivalent).
