Purpose of award
The main purpose of the Awards is to provide financial support to students enrolled in a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
Selection criteria
To take up and be paid the Awards the candidates must be enrolled and have paid the fees, or arranged to pay the fees, for enrolment in any year of a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree.
The basis of selection will be academic merit and demonstrated financial need.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
The Awards may be held concurrently with any other award or grant as long as a) the terms of that award or grant permit and b) the University of Auckland Council is informed and approves.
The University of Auckland Council is not obliged to make an award if in any year there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
How do students apply?
Scholarship applications will usually open around six weeks before the closing date. Please read the regulations carefully to be sure you are eligible before you apply.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
By letter or email, 6 weeks after the closing date.
Decision makers
The Awards will be made by the University of Auckland Council upon the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Head of the School of Medicine (or nominee), the Head of the Medical Programme (or nominee) and the Faculty Student Academic Services & Engagement Manager (or nominee).
History or background of award
The Awards were established in 2014 and are funded by the Clark Educational Trust.
Additional information
Academic merit is assessed by the GPA or GPE obtained over the applicant’s two most recent years of full-time graded study (or equivalent).
Financial need will be demonstrated by factors such as eligibility to apply for a StudyLink Student Allowance.
