Purpose of award
This scholarship was established to support the education of Māori Pharmacy students studying toward their Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and to promote pharmacy as a career.
Selection criteria
Applicants must be a member of the Māori Pharmacists' Association.
A requirement of this application is a 500 word essay to be attached to this application.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?

How and when do students learn of the decision?
The establishment of the Hiwinui Heke scholarships in 2008 was a tribute to Matua Hiwinui’s inspiration and dedication to pharmacy. These scholarships are awarded annually to outstanding Māori pharmacy students. In applying for this scholarship you will be picking up the mantle of Matua Hiwinui.

Hiwinui Heke Māori Pharmacy Scholarship Award in partnership with Nga Kaitiaki o Te Puna Rongoa o Aotearoa, the Māori Pharmacists' Association Inc. and PHARMAC.
Additional information
For the 500 word essay to be submitted with this application. You may choose between either of the two essay questions below:
• Explain how you connect to whānau, hapū, iwi and other Māori health organisations and how will this benefit Māori?
or
• Explain how you are able to develop and express yourself as Māori and how do you plan to continue this.
