What does the scholarship get me?
RM3,000 (reviewed from time to time paid directly to the student in Malaysian Ringgit).

Length of award
The scholarship may be held for one year only.
Each scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is awarded.
The scholarship may be held concurrently with other awards, subject to approval from the Undergraduate Scholarships Officer.

Purpose of award
The University of Otago Foundation for Malaysia is pleased to be able to offer this prize to an undergraduate student in their second or subsequent year of study, who has made an outstanding contribution to the welfare of Malaysian students at the University of Otago.
- Be a citizen of Malaysia (and not have citizenship or residency of New Zealand or Australia)
- Have completed a first year of a degree course at the University of Otago and be enrolled full-time for their second or subsequent year of study at the University of Otago
- Have contributed in a significant way to the Malaysian student community or to the wellbeing of Malaysian students at the University of Otago
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
Once their year of tenure is over, it is expected that recipients continue to display a service towards the Malaysian student community throughout their studies at the University of Otago.
How do students apply?
Every applicant must submit:
Their University of Otago Academic Transcript
A statement (max 500 words) outlining how they have contributed to the Malaysian student
community or to the well being of Malaysian students at the University of Otago.
The names of three referees who can be contacted by the selection panel for comment on the applicant’s community service activities and their suitability for the prize.
Community service and academic merit will be the primary criteria by which recipients are selected.
How and when do students learn of the decision?
Every holder of the prize must submit a written report on their activities to the Board of Trustees of the University of Otago Foundation for Malaysia by 1 December of the year in which they hold the award.
The Selection Panel will include the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), the Head of Alumni Relations, a New Zealand based Trustee of the University of Otago Foundation for Malaysia (or nominee) and the OUSA International Student Representative (or nominee).
History or background of award
The University of Otago Foundation for Malaysia was established in May 2002 to provide scholarships, grants-in-aid and loan funds for Malaysian students to study at the University of Otago.
The University of Otago and the University of Otago Foundation for Malaysia Trust reserve the right to use
the names, photographs and details of successful applicants for the purposes of advertising and publicity.
The scholarship holders must agree to be reasonably available to participate in interviews and promotional
activities if requested by the University or the Trust.
