Purpose of award
To encourage and support students who are interested in research into optometry and vision science at The University of Auckland.
Awarded to a suitable undergraduate student in Optometry or Science who has paid the fees, or arranged to pay the fees, for full-time enrolment in the Faculty of Science and who, in the opinion of the HOD, has the ability to complete the project. To be eligible students must be enrolled in a BSc, BSc(Hons), BTech , BOptom, or GradDipSci, studying approved Science disciplines. Students enrolled in a BA or BA(Hons) majoring in a Science discipline are also eligible.
The Scholarships are tenable by students who are New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand.
The basis of selection will be academic merit, the quality of the research-oriented project proposal and the availability of active supervision.
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
The University of Auckland Council has power to terminate or suspend a Scholarship, if it receives an unsatisfactory report on the progress of a Scholar from the Director/Head of the Department of Optometry and Vision Science.
How do students apply?
Applicants are responsible for forwarding 5 copies (including a word or pdf version) of the application to the Grant Committee by 30 June.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
The Scholarship's emolument will be paid in three instalments, paid monthly.
Awarded by the University of Auckland Council upon the recommendation of a selection committee comprising the Dean of the Faculty of Science (or nominee), the Head of the Department of Optometry and Vision Science (or nominee) and one representative of the Donor (appointed by sponsors or trustees).
History or background of award
Established in 2004. Financed by the New Zealand Optometric Vision Research Foundation (NZOVRF).
The University of Auckland Council is not obliged to make an award if in any year there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
The University of Auckland has power to amend or vary these Regulations (in consultation with the Donor) provided that there is no departure from the main purpose of the Scholarship.
