Purpose of award

The Scholarships will be awarded for outstanding cultural contribution to the University of Waikato (independent of academic performance), to assist with course fees and liviing costs.

Selection criteria

To be eligible, applicants must:
a) have completed at least 120 points of study at the University of Waikato, at the time of application;
b) be enrolled part- or full-time in the second year or above of their qualification at the University of Waikato; and
c) be a New Zealand citizen, permanent residents or international student.

Current members of the Waikato Students’ Union Executive, or employees of the Waikato Students’ Union who hold a fixed-term or continuing contract, are not eligible to apply for this Scholarship.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?

Applicants agree that if they are awarded the scholarship, they must consent to publicity regarding the scholarship in Nexus Magazine and elsewhere.

How do students apply?

If you are new to the University of Waikato you will need to:
Complete an Application to Enrol BEFORE you can have access to apply for Scholarships and Awards (This application is not a commitment to study here at the University of Waikato and can be withdrawn or updated at any time).
If you are a current student or already have a MyWaikato account you will be redirected to the MyWaikato screen:

Click on the ‘Scholarships’ tab and select the scholarship you wish to apply for from the list of scholarships at the bottom of the page.
Once you are ready, click on 'Apply Now' and continue with your application/s.

How and when do students learn of the decision?

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application as soon as practicable
following the selection meeting.

The WSU scholarship is awarded by the University of Waikato on the recommendations of the Selection Committee.

History or background of award

The WSU Scholarship for Cultural Contribution was established by Waikato Students' Union to recognize outstanding cultural contribution to the University.

Additional information

The Scholarship may not be held by current members of the WSU Executive, or employees of the WSU Executive who hold fixed-term or continuing contracts.

Students may receive the Scholarship on one occassion only.
